1. Proposal

eSports has become big business over the past couple of decades. Going from small Quake LAN tournaments in someone’s basement to arena events with thousands of spectators, streamed to tens of millions of viewers, with multi-million dollar prizes to be won. StarCraft is the original eSport and continues to be popular, generating over $37 million in winnings for its pro players.

For this project I’m actually revisiting this particular topic. The original version of this project was done at a feverish pace due to time constraints, so I wanted to come back and use the experience as an opportunity to tidy up my approach and learn a new web scraping framework, Scrapy. Some aspects of the tools and methodology might seem like using a bazooka to swat a fly, but on that day when you need a bazooka, you wanted it pointed at the advancing zombie hordes and not your face!
